In 1860, Giovanni Panerai (1825-1897) founded Panerai in Florence, Italy. The family business was located at the Ponte alle Grazie. Early on, Giovanni established contact with Swiss watch markers to set the ground work for his own prestigious instruments.
The concept of the company is simple. By producing less watches then the market demands, retail prices are stable and high and the instruments are counted amongst the most elusive brands in global markets. Low production volumes at high quality standards have been the secret of the company all along.
Having been in business for over 140 years, Panerai still has the thrive to produce a special edition on a yearly basis. Highly respected amongst celebrities, Sylvester Stallone in 1995 bought a batch of watches to distribute to friends, amongst which you will also find Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Austrian Governor of California, USA.
Today the company is located in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. From here Italian design is combined with Swiss movement technology. Officine, make, stands for lasting quality with a live time experience.
